Library Castle is an independent Canadian publishing house. We do not have a house style so much
as a house conviction: that the most interesting thing a book can do is make its structure mean
something. We are interested in books that use their form as an argument, not a container. We are
drawn to fiction that is architecturally deliberate, culturally precise, and built to last. We
take drama seriously as a literary mode. We find comedy and tragedy most interesting when they are
indistinguishable. We believe the most durable fiction is the kind that makes you read it twice
for different reasons. Library Castle was established in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Two Musicals
40,000 words · Novella
A pop star gets married in Venice. A rapper records an album at a ski resort. Both stories explore
what happens behind the curtain of the music industry, where the artists are just normal people
and the fans are anything but.
Together they are a portrait of modern aspiration at its most surreal. One is set in the heat of a Venetian summer. The other in the snow of a Canadian winter. Both are equally cold.

Pope Samuel
67,000 words · Novel
A Scottish prince moves through medieval Europe in search of something sacred. The continent he
crosses is Catholic, feudal, and alive with creatures that science has not yet named. Jorge Luis
Borges called these animals imaginary. In Pope Samuel they are ingredients.
The novel moves from Scotland to England to France to Italy, to a ghost island in the Atlantic, and back again. The further the prince travels the harder it becomes to distinguish the church from the state, the saint from the sinner, the magic from the science.

Play · 2026
A reality television survival competition takes place on a small island dictatorship. The tribes are divided by zodiac sign. The challenges are brutal, the alliances are fragile, and tribal council runs late into the night. The lying starts on day one, only the island gods know who is telling the truth.
The host and the producer are the only people on the island who are not at risk of losing anything. This makes them the most dangerous players in the game, they have their own agenda and it has nothing to do with who wins.

Princeville
53,000 words · Novel
The most dangerous place at Princeville University is not the library basement where the demon
lives. It is the administrative office where nobody answers the phone.
Nobody is passing their classes. Nobody is going to class. Everyone is looking for a roommate, a job, a reason to stay enrolled, or a way out of town. The students have more pressing concerns than their education, including where they will sleep, how they will pay for it, and why they are still technically students in the first place. Princeville is a university for people who have not quite figured out what they are doing there.

Comedy of Comedians
Play · 2026
Opening night at Laughing Gas Comedy Club. Richard Williams has built the room, hired the security, and banned the phones. Backstage, a first-timer is trying not to throw up, a comic fresh out of rehab is trying not to drink, and the headliner is trying to look like a man who already has a special. The jokes are getting worse. The crowd is getting louder.
Out front, two people in the audience have come with a plan of their own. It has nothing to do with comedy, and they think it is the funniest thing anyone has done all night. The comedians have spent the night saying whatever they like. Now someone else has the microphone. Richard has always said comedy should have no limits. He is about to meet someone who agrees.

Ambrosia Istoria
108,000 words · Novel
In the ancient Mediterranean, a party is the highest form of civilization. The slaves know it. The
senators know it. The gods know it too, and they are the worst behaved of all.
A Roman and an Egyptian cross the ancient world from opposite ends and arrive at the same ruin. The novel is epic in scale and picaresque in spirit, fashioned after the great Roman fiction that survived antiquity. The gods give poetry readings. The politicians give speeches. Nobody learns anything.

Angel Olympics
Play · 2026
The Angel Accelerator is the most prestigious tech accelerator in the world, if you ask the people who run it. Gabriel and Michael have given away a lot of money to a lot of companies and they expect a great deal in return. The startups are building weapons, drugs, artificial wombs, teleportation, and a machine that lets you live forever. Nobody is entirely sure any of it will work.
Over the course of three months the best and brightest are workshopped, mentored, networked and evaluated. They are told to think bigger, to move faster, to be killers. Some of them take this more literally than others. The technology being built inside Angel Accelerator is going to change the world. Whether that is a good thing depends on who you ask.

Unfortunate Cookies
32,000 words · Novella
A professional footballer in Vancouver is throwing matches. The instructions come in fortune
cookies, from a man in Chinatown with a bonsai tree and a sake habit. The footballer has
everything the game is supposed to give you. The game is not enough.
The novella moves between the present and a childhood on gravel fields in the rain. It is a story about abundance and what a person does when they cannot feel it.
